Conventional dashboards fall short of meeting diverse needs. The answer? A perfect blend of analog controls and a digital cockpit. Imagine a state-of-the-art dashboard, like the one in the Cayenne Electric, replacing the traditional round instruments with a sleek, modern display.
Up to four displays empower the driver and passenger to interact with the SUV. Ivo van Hulten, Director of Driver Experience, and his team ensured these displays were user-friendly. The focus was on creating an intuitive, ergonomic, and safe UX/UI design.
"UX" stands for user experience, and "UI" for user interface. A well-structured concept enhances not just vehicle operation but also the overall brand experience and customer satisfaction. It's all about finding the right balance between emotion and function.
Van Hulten explains, "The Macan Electric concept inspired the UX/UI design. With the Cayenne, we aimed for a harmonious blend of emotion and functionality, while keeping the Porsche essence intact. Our models prioritize the driver's experience, ensuring vehicle features don't distract them."
Porsche's Driver Experience puts the driver first, with every touch and action designed to enhance comfort and support driving. Considering the Cayenne Electric's vast array of functions, it's an impressive feat.
And this is the part most people miss... the Cayenne can be updated throughout its life, much like a smartphone. New features can be downloaded over the air (OTA), offering immediate access to the latest innovations.
The Porsche Voice Pilot, powered by AI and large language models (LLM), is a game-changer. It understands not just what you say but also your intent. Complex queries, like finding the best restaurant in Stuttgart or parking options, are no longer a challenge. The Voice Pilot can assist with natural language recognition, and its functionalities can be expanded via online updates.
The design team has seamlessly integrated the central input unit, the Flow Display, into the dashboard. This curved OLED masterpiece offers smooth control logic and ergonomic operation, even in dynamic driving situations, thanks to the newly developed wrist pad.
The Flow Display, along with up to three additional monitors, creates the largest digital user interface in a Porsche. A fully digital 14.25-inch OLED instrument cluster, directly in front of the driver, displays vital information like speed, navigation, and infotainment. The "Signature Screen" view pays homage to the iconic round instruments of the air-cooled Porsche era.
The optional 14.9-inch codriver display offers entertainment, app control, and video streaming without distracting the driver. The Cayenne Electric also boasts an optional head-up display with augmented reality, showing the road ahead and embedding virtual driver assistance and navigation content into the real-world view.
Configurable widgets on the Flow Display's lower part allow intuitive operation of essential functions. The Themes app lets you adapt the color scheme of all digital surfaces, including the Flow Display, instrument cluster, and ambient lighting, creating a customizable design element.
The App Center ensures the Cayenne remains up-to-date with Porsche and third-party apps. Regardless of location, the Cayenne Electric can be easily adjusted to regional preferences.
The Porsche Digital Key turns smartphones and smartwatches into vehicle door openers. Using ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, the Cayenne recognizes and unlocks or locks doors automatically as you approach or leave. It can be easily shared with Apple or Android users and used with Apple or Google Wallet, accommodating up to seven additional users with customizable permissions.
While embracing digitalization, Porsche hasn't forgotten tactile elegance. The Flow Display offers ultrasmooth operation, but analog or capacitive control elements are maintained for common functions. Buttons on the combi display, steering wheel, and below the Flow Display provide convenient access to radio, telephone, and air conditioning functions, as well as lights, Porsche Electric Sport Sound (PESS), and parking assistance.
Two freely configurable joker buttons further enhance the Driver Experience, offering maximum ease of use with minimal distraction. It's a perfect blend of innovation, design, and driver-centric focus, as Sajjad Khan puts it, "Because the driver is of central importance in everything we do."
